About the Website and the Creator
In June 2024, Austin Stroud was appointed as the county genealogist for Lawrence County, Indiana by the Indiana Genealogical Society. This is a volunteer role, and in taking on this responsibility Austin wanted to create an online presence where he could highlight stories about the local history and genealogy of Lawrence County for all to enjoy.
Austin currently works full-time as a lecturer in the Department of Library and Information Science at Indiana University Indianapolis. He also has nearly 10 years of experience as a public library director, and worked at both public libraries in Lawrence County (Mitchell and Bedford) during high school and early college. He also grew up in Mitchell and graduated as part of the high school class of 2002.
Austin has completed an A.S. in Software Development from Ivy Tech Community College, a B.S. in Labor Studies from Indiana University, an MSEd in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University, a Master of Library Science (MLS) from Indiana University Indianapolis, and is currently working on his dissertation toward a PhD in Information Studies at Dominican University. He hopes to be completed with the dissertation by May 2025, and currently resides in Bloomington, Indiana.
